Default 404 (Page Not Found) error

In google webmaster tools I get this warning. "Google detected a significant increase in the number of URLs that return a 404 (Page Not Found) error. Investigating these errors and fixing them where appropriate ensures that Google can successfully crawl your site's pages."

I have 268 errors - checked those links and I have changed link structure from to . So those error are mainly old links. How do I tell to google not to use those links?

Google will eventually just remove those 404s from its index.
