Default Title Tag

Hey team

Store: 35251
http://www.chinawholesalectronics.com/

1. I use All in One SEO
2. Theme I use is Socrates
3. Store is the frontpage

When I view the source code of the front page there is no blog title showing

meta name and description show but no title.

In All in One SEO Pro I omitted the Title as it says if you do not put one in it will use the default one.

Do not have anything is the theme area either for the title of the site as that is in the header section of datafeedr BUT the title section is not showing up on the frontpage.

Can you assist here please.

Hi,

I would disable All in One SEO on your "Store" page. Here's how to do that:

/showthread.php?t=3305

Hi,

I imported your store into my test site with AIOSEO installed and activated and your titles work fine for me.

What other SEO plugins do you have installed?

Hey Eric

I compared this site to another one I am running plug-in wise and there is no difference. However I went through and deactivated each plug-in to see if the title would come up. Nothing, so I then deactivated the datafeedr plug-in and up comes the default site title. So I can only think that it is something with datafeedr is causing this issue.

This site has some custom css and that is the only thing different - surely that would not cause this issue.

Hi,

The problem is how your theme is coded. They had this:
PHP Code:
<title><?php $metaSettings get_option("metaSettings"); if(is_front_page()) { if($metaSettings['sitetitle'] and $metaSettings['sitetitle'] != '') {echo $metaSettings['sitetitle'];} else {bloginfo('name'); }} else { the_title(); }?></title>
At the end, it shouldn't be the_title(). It should be wp_title().

mm, appreciate you fixing it for me but it begs the question why just this site as the other site uses the same theme. I am wondering if the php coding that has been used to display the products the way they are could be causing this issue.

In case you are wondering the other site still has the datafeedr plug-in activated and showing amazon products. The only thing that has happened on this site is the custom php coding to show the products the way the are along with custom css.

Again appreciate you fixing the issue.

Hi,

The only difference that I can guess is that you don't have your other website's store on the front page. That would make a difference... I think.

But I do know that the code I see in your theme's header.php is incorrect.

They were using the_title(). The WP codex states:
Quote:
Displays or returns the title of the current post. This tag must be within The Loop. If the post is protected or private, this will be noted by the words "Protected: " or "Private: " prepended to the title.
The Loop does not exist within the <head> area of the header.php file.

They should use wp_title(). The example here shows the proper usage.

Eric
