Default Really slow then timout 404

Store ID:
Website URL: http://www.custom-unique-engagement-rings.com/store
URL to page in question: any page after the store home page

Since adding catagories and products the store is now unusable. I've tried all the settings for hosting images locally, caching, everything on this post - /show...ighlight=cache

Is it my hosting? I'm on a shared Hostgator account - should I upgrade to a VPS. If so how much CPU/RAM would be needed for a store with say 100,000 products and maybe 40-50 catagories/subcatagories?

I'm getting some traffic now so need to get it working ASAP - thanks!

Hi

I don't think it's Datafeedr or the size of your store that's causing this loading issue.

Even your contact page (a simple, non-Datafeedr page) http://www.custom-unique-engagement-rings.com/contact/ takes forever load.

Here's the results of loading your Contact page. It took over 1.5 minutes:

As you can see, it connected to your server in 66ms but it waited 1.5 minutes for a response:

I imported your store into my local test site (which has plenty of power) and things were still slow.

From what I can tell, the thing that is slowing down most page loads are images from Buy.com. For example, here are 3 product images from Buy.com:

http://ak.buy.com/PI/0/500/224853362.jpg
http://ak.buy.com/PI/0/1000/219303806.jpg
http://ak.buy.com/PI/0/500/230219705.jpg

None of them load. But the store is trying to do something with those images. (Now they are loading but when I started looking into this issue, they weren't loading at all.)

I would pass on those screenshots to your host and ask about them and why pages are taking forever to load, even pages with almost no content.

Additionally, I changed the sorting of your Products widget as doing Random sorts takes a long time on a big selection of products.

Thanks for the reply Eric,

Any other page on my site loads fine. It's when I load a store page and either click a link to another store/category page or even just try to click away from a store page. It's like any store page will hang. I'm being kicked by affiliate merchsants now because they can't access my site.

As a Test I just went to my home page then clicked every non-store related link and they all load incredibly fast (all the caching/optimization seems to have sped up the rest of the site).

Then I will click the store, the first page loads (except 1 image), then I'll click on any category or even a non store content page and ....forget it.. It's definately the store. If I close my browser and open it again my homepage and non store pages load fine. I'll try the following:

I'll see what Hostgator have to say - maybe they are choking the resources to this site or can identify the bottleneck

Remove all Linkshare affiliates as the problem started when I added them and created lots more categories

Hide some categories and see if it's multiple categories

Do the Amazon cloud caching thing..

I'll try each step independantly of each other to try and isolate the problem.

I need lots of products and lots of very specific categories.

Hi

I still get the problem on non-store pages. For example, your Contact page still took 3.7 minutes to load and returned a 404 error.

Here's another solution if you believe the image processing is causing the issue: /showthread.php?t=6858

That worked!!!

If I could I'd buy you a beer - thanks Eric. Just out of interest could you test my contact page again? I found all pages loaded slowly after clicking a store page, but now I'd be interested to see how quickly the contact page loads for you.

Now it's less than 1 second. I think the issue was related to downloading images from merchant's with slow servers.
