Default Random Category Product Displays

I'm trying to create a product list that displays random product images from within a couple of designated category id's.

For example I'd like it to display 3 products randomly from any of Category A and it's sub-categories sub1, sub2, sub3. So in other words the 3 images that show up can come from any of those categories.

Can I assign specific categories for the random code to pull from? Can this be done using a custom views?

Yes, you can use a custom view and integrate it into a post or page.

Follow these instructions...

1. Create a custom view and add a product list module

2. Add product list coding and save changes

3. Click the settings icon ( ) for the product list module to edit product list settings.

4. Choose random from the Sort by dropdown list

5. Insert the number of products per page

6. Select the option Use custom query

7. Add the category IDs you want to pull products from in the Custom query string field in the following fomat c= catID1,catID2,catID3 and save changes

8. To pull in the view in your post or page use [DFR:viewname] with viewname the name of your view

Sorry Stephan I was premature in sending that reply. Everything showed up however I have multiple category ID's entered into the string but only the first category in the string is showing products. It won't show products from the other category ID's. Here is an example string i'm using.

c=586354, 586355, 586356, 586357, 586358, 586359, 586360, 586361, 586362

Is this not right? I do have "random" selected and custom query selected. Anything else I'm missing?

Try removing the spaces between the commas and the IDs.
