Default Still troubles with uploading products and setting

Eric,
we have been in touch several times about the problems with uploading products and settings.

I have created a new store on a new domain. Added merchants and products.
Uploading the datafeedr v3.1.3091.
Permission settings are ok (755 for folder,664 for files).
Had a total of 12.000 products hit "update products and settings" and everything went through fine.

Added more products to the store (approx 18.000)
Hit "update products and settings", got a blank page. Store was gone.

Got email error msg (5 times!!!)
ERROR: - err_au_locked ## 1300357188-0,
Technical details:
auto_update: err_au_locked ## 1300357188-0

Deactivated datafeedr plugin.
Reinstalled manually through ftp.
All 18.000 products and setting are there (I did not even hit "update products and settings")

Added again more products to the store (approx 48.000)
Hit "update products and settings", got a 500 Internal Server Error. Store was gone.

Got email error msg (5 times!!!)
ERROR: - err_au_locked ## 1300357719-0,
Technical details:
auto_update: err_au_locked ## 1300357719-0

Deactived datafeedr plugin.
Reinstalled manually through ftp.
All 47.000 products and setting are there (again, I did not even hit "update products and settings")

I mean, I know now how the get more than 12.000 products to my store, but that cant be the way it is supposed to work

I will send you ftp/wp login through PM. Please try to do the same things I did, so you can see what I am talking about.

One thing that I saw and looks strange to me, but I am no tech-wiz, are the attribute setting that I see through ftp.

All other plugin folders do have DRWXR-SR-X
Only datafeedr folder has DRWXR-XR-X

But the all have the same permissions (755)
What's the difference between that S and X?
Can't that have something to do with it?

Thanks for looking into it!
Sylvia

Hi Sylvia,

We are looking into these issues and I will update you as soon as we figure out what's going on.

Regarding the permission abbreviations, here's more info:

Thanks Eric!

I guess you are testing since a couple of hours. Right?
Because I am getting tons of error emails with

ERROR: - err_au_locked ## 1300370611-0,
Technical details:
auto_update: err_au_locked ## 1300370611-0

Just wanted to let you know, in case that's important.

Hi

So, it's unclear exactly why this is happening but it might be due to the FastCGI configuration.

At any rate, it appears that even though the connection is dropped while doing the update, PHP continues running and finishes the import. That's why immediately after the update "fails", you can't load the store but then a few moments later, the update appears to be completed successfully.

In version 3.2 we will be addressing issues related to large store updates (which your store would classify as).

In the meantime, to stop receiving email error messages, you could turn off auto-updates. To do this, set the auto-update interval to 0.

We will also be dealing with the many email notification issue in this release as well so you don't get bombarded with notifications.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

That is the reply I got from my host (networksolutions)

For security, speed, and compatibility, PHP is set to run on our shared servers as Fast CGI. If you need PHP to run as an Apache module, we do offer nsHosting VPS; however, it is more likely that the script you are trying to run needs you to change one or more PHP settings via a php.ini you can place in your /cgi-bin folder. Fast CGI is compatible with all mainstream PHP applications

Eric,
any ideas what to change in the php.ini to make it work?
Thanks,
Sylvia

Hi Sylvia

I think this is a communication fault between Apache and the FastCGI process, so it's not solvable without editing Apache configuration.

One possible workaround is to run PHP as "Apache module" rather than "FastCGI" (configurable on some hosts).

So basically, if you have a shared server and the host (like netsol) does not provide the possibility to run PHP as an apache module, you cannot run stores larger than approx. 12000 items, for now ...

Well, I am looking forward to version 3.2. then!
