Default Category Images on Store Front Page

Hi Eric and Stefan

With the new version of the factory, is it possible to have the category images showing on your index pages?

I have assigned images to my categories but when I put the category list module in the store front page default view no images show up, I just get a list of my categories at the top of the page.

Thanks
Lyndsay

Hi

Yes, you can do that in your views section. Just add something like one of these:

<img src="[category.image]" alt="[category.name]" />

<img src="[category.thumbnail]" alt="[category.thumbnail]" />

Thanks Eric.

Do I post it in a text module or a category list module?

It works find on the category page but I can't get it to work on the store front page.

Thanks

Hi

You need to post that within a category loop within the Category list module. So something like this:

Category list module

HTML Code:
[category.list]
	<p>
		<a href="[category.link]">[category.name]</a>
		<br />
		<img src="[category.thumbnail]" align="left" />
		[category.description]
	</p>
[/category.list]

I am trying to have a 2 column category listing for my store page with a thumbnail image for each category. However the image doesn't show

Here is my code in the category list template:

Code:
[category.list id='dfcatcol1' before='<div class="cl">' after='</div>']
  <div class="cell col2">
    <div class="bdr">
      <a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
      <br />
      <img src="[category.thumbnail]" align="left" />

      <div class="catdesc">[category.description]</div>

    </div>
  </div>
[/category.list]
But this show up in the browser as

Code:
<img src="" align="left" />
Your help is appreciated

Default link for image and format problem

Hi Eric and Stefan,

i've added the picture like your description. It looks nice. But i've 2 problems:

1. how can i make the pictures links to the corresponding category? I think it's simple html code, but i'm to stupid to do right.
2. i use this code in the category list of category view:
HTML Code:
[category.list id='dfcatcol1' before='<div class="cl">' after='</div>']
  <div class="cell col2">
    <div class="bdr">
       <img src="[category.thumbnail]" align="center" />
      <center><a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a></center>
            <div class="catdesc">[category.description]</div>
      [category.list id='dfcatcol2' before='<ul>' after='</ul>']
        <li>
          <a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
          [category.repeat id='dfcatcol2']
        </li>
      [/category.list]
    </div>
  </div>
[/category.list]
You can see the result in the picture. The problem is, that there are several empty columns. That makes the view not very symmetric. What can i do to have only 2 symmetric columns.

thanks Klaus

Hi

This is the link code you need: <a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">...</a>

I think your code should look like this:
HTML Code:
[category.list id='dfcatcol1' before='<div class="cl">' after='</div>']
  <div class="cell col2">
    <div class="bdr">
       <img src="[category.thumbnail]" align="center" />
      	<center><a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a></center>
        <div class="catdesc">[category.description]</div>
    </div>
  </div>
[/category.list]

Thanks Eric,

i added your code so:
HTML Code:
[category.list id='dfcatcol1' before='<div class="cl">' after='</div>']
  <div class="cell col2">
    <div class="bdr">
            <a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]"> <img src="[category.thumbnail]" align="center" /> </a>
      <center><a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a></center>
      <br />
      <div class="catdesc">[category.description]</div>
      [category.list id='dfcatcol2' before='<ul>' after='</ul>']
        <li>
          <a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
          [category.repeat id='dfcatcol2']
        </li>
      [/category.list]
    </div>
  </div>
[/category.list]
and the link for the image work fine. I did't use yours because in want to show the sub-category too. But the format problem is the same. Best you can see the on: Hardware

The list of subcategories is to far away from the parent category.

Here are two images, i hope to explain what i mean. p1:not so; p2lease so. :-).

You probably need to set a min-height on the boxes.

So, you should add something like this to your Custom CSS field.

Code:
#view .cl .cell { min-height: 300px; }

OK, That works fine :-) Thank You. Last point: the space between parent-category and sub-category-list is to big. Hope you have an idea for that too.

That's because you have the code for the category description to be displayed but you have no category descriptions to take up that space.
