Default specific results on store front page

Hi Stefan/Eric,

On my store front page I display an "example" feed of 4 items. I'll post the code below if you can give me some advice. What I'd like to show there are random products OR a particular category. (Maybe "Drivers" etc.) Right now when the page opens I get the same 4 items everytime even after I refresh the page. Can you look at the code and see if I'm missing something here?

Also, what would I do to have products randomly display from a specific category like I mentioned above.

And can I make 4 items of my choosing land there? Or maybe create a hidden category of 20 items that will randomly land there?

here's the code if you need to see it.

<!-- Product List -->
<ul class="products grid">
<div class="pl">
<div class="t1 col4">
<div class="bdr">
<h2><a href="[]" title="[]">[]</a></h2>
<div class="thmb"><a href="[]" title="[]">[product.thumbnail tag='1']</a></div>

<?php if ($product->saleprice > 0 && $product->saleprice < $product->price) { ?>
<div class="prc">
<span style="text-decoration: line-through;">[product.currency mode='sign'][product.price]</span>
<span style="font-weight: bold; color:red;">[product.currency mode='sign'][product.saleprice]</span>
<?php } else { ?>
<div class="prc">
[product.currency mode='sign'][product.price]
<?php } ?>
<p class="desc">[product.description]</p>
<div class="logo">[product.merchant_logo]</div>
<div class="btns">
<?php if ( $product->compset_status > 0 ) : ?>
<a href="[]" class="dfbutton dforange dfmedium dfrounded" title="Find the best price for []">Compare Prices</a>
<?php else : ?>
<a href="[]" class="dfbutton dfgreen dfmedium dfrounded" title="View details of []">Details</a>
<?php endif; ?>
<div class="clearingdiv"> </div>
<div class="clearingdiv"> </div>
<!-- /Product List -->

Thanks so much,
