Default Search box with selectable categories

Hello,

I am trying to add a large search box to the center of my store page, that would allow the user to select a category (from a drop down menu or check box style) and then type a search for that specific category and be directed to the results in that category.

I am new at this and don't really know how I would set this up
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Hi,

Welcome to the forums!

You need to add a Category List module to the view (or views) where you want your search form to appear.

Then add the following code to your Category List module's theme area ():

HTML Code:
[search.form]
<div class="store_search_form">

  <p class="keyword"><label for="word">Keyword</label> [search.word]</p>

  <p class="category">
    <label for="category">Category</label>
    <select name="c">
      [category.list before='' after='']
        <option value="[category.id]"><?php echo str_repeat ('-', (($depth-1)*2) ); ?> &nbsp; [category.name]</option>
        [category.repeat]
      [/category.list]
    </select>
  </p>

  <p class="button">[search.submit title='Find it!']</p>

</div>
[/search.form]
That will give you the drop down of categories and a search box and when the submit button is pressed, it will direct the user to your search page. It's not possible to direct to the category page.

Here's more on...

Editing your views:

Here's where I found the code (for your reference):

Hope this helps!

You'll just need to style the above HTML to get the look you want.

Eric
