Default Product Detail Deletion and Replacment

Store ID: 43849
Website URL: Paddleboardexplorer.com
URL to page in question:

Good Morning.
After reading a couple of post responses to other subscribers from Stephan, I think I understand that listing products with details directly imported from the merchant (Amazon) is a bad SEO thing.

Is this strategy better?
1. I remove the details from my listings using this code: (copied from Stephan's post)

1. Go here: The Factory > Your Store > VIEWS > CATEGORY PAGE > Default > Product list module and click the template icon ( )

2. Delete this line: <p class="desc">[product.description]</p>

3. Save

4. Click the [Update Settings Only] button on your site.

2. Going to the "Add Products to This Category" > "more info" button on a product> I add new details that I've written.
Question: Do I put the new text in the space where the imported details were originally or in the big empty box to the right?
Do I change anything about the current Product URL?

3. I select several products (20 or so) to rewrite and these are put into the "Featured Products" section of the store front page.

4. The remaining 200 or so products are listed with only a "Details" button in the listing box that goes directly to the merchant's corresponding product page bypassing the existing product details page.

How do I do this? Is it possible?

Can I continue to have the "Featured Products" go to a product details page that links to the merchant?

Finally, does the Datafeedr team think this strategy will enhance SEO?

I apologize for the lengthy post but I thought this might save some time.

Thank,
Bob

Hi,

To be honest, I can't speak to the effectiveness of this solution regarding its SEO effect.

However, to answer your other questions:

Question: Do I put the new text in the space where the imported details were originally or in the big empty box to the right?
Do I change anything about the current Product URL?

The big empty box to the right.
Don't touch the URL field unless you know what you're doing.

To get "Featured" products to go to your local product page, you don't need to edit your Featured listing. That already functions that way.

To get products on your category pages to link directly to the merchants' pages, go here The Factory > Your Store > VIEWS > CATEGORY PAGE > Default > Product list module > Theme settings () and change this:

HTML Code:
<a href="[product.link]" title="View details of [product.name]" class="dfbutton dforange dfmedium dfrounded">Details</a>
To this:
HTML Code:
<a href="[product.url]" title="View details of [product.name]" class="dfbutton dforange dfmedium dfrounded">Details</a>

Thanks for the reply.

Do I still follow this step before changing the code you supplied?

1. Go here: The Factory > Your Store > VIEWS > CATEGORY PAGE > Default > Product list module and click the template icon ( )

2. Delete this line: <p class="desc">[product.description]</p>

And, in another post in the forum I saw something about a "nofollow" code that should be entered. Of course I can't find the specific post again. Is this advisable and if so, what is the code and where does it go?

Thanks again

Hi,

Yes, that's how to remove the descriptions on your category pages.

Yes, it's advisable and your code should look like this:

HTML Code:
<a rel="nofollow" href="[product.url]" title="View details of [product.name]" class="dfbutton dforange dfmedium dfrounded">Details</a>

One more thing. How do I replace the imported product description with a custom description?

The imported text in the "more info" area won't delete and adding new text in the big box doesn't change what is displayed on the store page. It does, however, change in the product description in the "add products to this category" page.

I know it must be something simple but I'm not figuring it.

Hi,

If these are Amazon products that you are editing the description for, you must delete the Local Storage first here: WordPress Admin Area > Tools > Datafeedr > Amazon API > Update and Local Storage > [Delete the Local Storage]

I followed the instruction and Deleted the Local Storage. But I'm still not able to lose the original text and replace it with new descriptions. What next?

Store ID: 43849
Website URL: paddleboardexplorer.com
URL to page in question: http://paddleboardexplorer.com/store and all category pages

Imported product details no longer appear when the "More Information" button is clicked.
BUT, the details are still being shown when the product name or image is clicked.

I'm not sure which code to delete to solve the issue.

Store ID: 43849
Website URL: paddleboardexplorer.com
URL to page in question: http://paddleboardexplorer.com/store and all category pages

On both the Store front page and on the category pages I only want to see the product name and image and More Information button which links to the corresponding merchant page. I suppose if the name and image also linked to the merchant page, than would be fine also. Right now the More Info button goes to the merchant page but the name and image goes to my product page where all the imported details still appear.

Also if you'll look at the store page you'll notice that the listings get moved around a bit so that there is a break in 3 per row layout. Seems to be because of a sale price.

I think when I get this working I'll be done bothering you for a while.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi,

You need to change all occurrences of [product.link to [product.url

[product.url] links to the merchant's site.

[product.link] links to the product details page on your site.

I'm not seeing any break in your layout on your store's front page.

I deleted the product that was causing the problem on the store front. There was only one left on Amazon anyway. The alignment problem still exists on some of the category pages. "Packages for example."

Thanks,
Bob

Hi,

Try adding the following to your Custom CSS:

Code:
#view .pl .t1 .bdr .prc small { text-align: 12px; }

If I did it right, it didn't work. Here's what I did:

VIEW>CATEGORY PAGE>Product List>edit module settings>entered code into Custom CSS ID box>save changes>update products and settings

Was this correct?

I removed the incorrect work I had done and followed the instructions you provided. Saved and Updated. The problem still exists.
