Default verticle vs. horizontal results

right now my site displays vertical results, 3 across. I'm kicking around the idea of having the results show up horizontal....1 across. (a rectangle) I know I saw that functionality here at some point with datafeedr and I know that hotel site "Trivago" uses it.

Can you tell me what I would need to do to try it on my site? Do you think one way is better than the other?
