Default Stores and Categories

Hi,

I noticed that it's not possible (without using code) to change the category hierarchy from the default which seems to be Store>Categories>Sub categories.

This is limiting because I'd like to have a store with a category level below the sub level e.g.

Store Name: Essentials
Category:Health and Beauty
Sub category: Bath & Body
Sub sub category: Hand and Footcare

Anyone know how I can easily create this type of category hierarchy without changing code or would I be better off creating multiple stores so that each store becomes a category?

Thanks

Hi

Yes, you can easily change category order and hierarchy in the Factory using drag and drop.

Here's a video:

Question Stores and Categories

Thanks Eric. Now how about country categories. I have users from USA, UK and Australia. Can I set these up as categories then use the same sub categories for each and would I be able to have a category below sub category i.e. a sub sub category if you will? Oh and is there any limit to the depth of the hierarchy?

If not how would you suggest I feature products from each of these three countries?

Thanks

Hi

Yes, you can create categories with country names and add the same sub-categories underneath those country categories. However if you're going to have sub-category names the same as other sub-category names, you should do this:

1. Go here: The Factory > Your Store > Store menu > URL Settings > Default category page URL

2. Change store/category/%cs/ to store/category/%cp/

There's no limit to the depth of your categories however going over 4 levels deep tends to be inconvenient for your site's visitors.

Eric
