Default Correct format for tracking parameters

If I want to continue to use PRODUCT_ID..

..do I enter that without the brackets now in V3? Do I need to enter the affiliate network parameter (eg, sid= ) or is that automatic?

And I've wanted to ask this..., I'm curious what the best option is if I just want to know what product on my site sold. Am I right to assume product_id?

REFERRER would seem to be a good option (I think it would record the page the clicked through on my site?), but there are limits to the length of the tracking ID.. what portion of the URL is recorded?

...and I could see the benefit knowing the REFERRER_ID, but.. would I know where the sale came from? the product?

Thanks,

-Matt

Hi

Currently, only the tracking parameter ID is passed into the URL. So, if someone clicks through to your site, a referrer ID is created and stored on your Datafeedr Tracking page. If that user makes a purchase, the ID is stored at the respective affiliate network and you will be able to tell how the user got your site.

As it is, REFERRER_ID will pass the properly formatted, affiliate network specific tracking parameter like afftrack=12 or sid=123. You don't need to modify anything.

We will try to add support for additional parameters in the URL.

So Eric, do we no longer need to type in the Tracking Parameter field: SID=sid=[REFERRER_ID]?

So now we can just leave it as: [REFERRER_ID] and the correct parameter is pased?

Eric, So If I need to add some fixed text in front of the Referrer ID (so I can see the different clicks from different websites with ShareASale, as their reporting is sooo bad), how can I do this correctly?

At the moment, the tracking parameter field just says: REFERRER_ID
Can I write: xxx[REFERRER_ID]? Will that work?

Actually, REFERRER_IDxxx works.

REFERRER_IDxxx returns sid=123xxx
xxxREFERRER_ID returns xxxsid=123 (wrong)

I guess that will have to do. Having the XXX in front of the Affiliate ID would be better though, as then they all line up neatly in the SaS traffic report.

Sorry, I misspoke...

REFERRER_IDxxx returns sid=123xxx
xxxREFERRER_ID returns sid=xxx123

So you are able to do what you need to do.

Remember to click the [Update Products and Settings] button when you are finished.

You can use the product ID in your tracking parameter, too.

For example:

REFERRER_ID_PRODUCT_ID would return 123_194700040367954
REFERRER_ID_abc_PRODUCT_ID would return 123_abc_194700040367954
abc_REFERRER_ID_PRODUCT_ID would return abc_123_194700040367954
abc_PRODUCT_ID_REFERRER_ID would return abc_194700040367954_123

I have a similar question

Right now I have tracking parameters in my V1 stores, that look like what follows below for my various affiliate program networks:

[These are for my Shoes store, hence the shoes references]

LinkShare: u1=shoesls[REFERRER_ID]

Commission Junction: sid=shoescj[REFERRER_ID]

ClickBank: tid=shoescb[REFERRER_ID]

Google Affiliate Network: mid=shoesgan[REFERRER_ID]

PepperJam: sid=shoespjn[REFERRER_ID]

When I run a sid report on PJN, it will indicate the SID value and indicate what merchant it related to.

What would I need to change, add, or delete to each of the above in V3 settings for each of my various stores to get a sense for what product was actually purchased.

Might you provide examples using my current V1 tracking parameters?

Thanks!
