Datafeedr Plugin - Site Suspended...

Hostgator suspended one of my websites last night due to datafeedr plugin affecting the server.

Here is the snippet that I got from them showing the offending code:

The following query is the issue and you may need to present this information in order for the plugin creator/maintainer to resolve this issue.

mysql> explain SELECT DISTINCT wp_dfr_shop_products.* FROM wp_dfr_shop_products INNER JOIN wp_dfr_shop_p2c ON wp_dfr_shop_products.id=wp_dfr_shop_p2c.id WHERE wp_dfr_shop_p2c.cat_id IN(663390) AND (wp_dfr_shop_products.state=1) ORDER BY wp_dfr_shop_products.name ASC LIMIT 0, 3;

Plugin Version is:3.3.3583

Approximately 5700 products in the store.

Hi

The query does not tell us what the issue is. What about the query caused Hostgator to suspend your account?

Eric

Eric

They are saying it was that one.

Looks like it was doing a product update?

Hi

Seems strange that a small store would cause load problems.

Product updates do create a lot of queries on your database and if your CPU or RAM allowances are low, then it could increase the load too much.

I would do this:

1. Install a good WP caching plugin. Try this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/w3-total-cache/

2. Then, increase the interval at which your store is updated. Maybe just once a week. You can do so here: The Factory > Your Store > Store menu > Basic Store Settings. Also, clicking the [Update Settings Only] button is a very "lightweight" process that doesn't create that many queries. On the other hand, clicking the [Update Products and Settings] button can be server intensive.

W3 Total Cache was installed by them.

I've also enabled cloudflare and its configured within the cache plugin.

I had increased the update interval to daily, due to the products/time of year, prices are changing daily, but will set it back to the default.

They are going to take a look at it now and see if they will enable the site for public visitors again.

Thanks.

Finally got word back from Hostgator.

They reenabled my site, noticed CPU ramping up again, so disabled once again and have completely locked me out of the site.

I have asked for additional information on CPU usage ie MySQL, apache, etc. but they are very slow to respond today...

Datafeedr was definitely caught in a loop trying to update with cloudflare enabled, but now that cloudflare is removed, they still have all inbound traffic blocked, so it can't update. Not sure what is causing the CPU utilization. I would assume that if it were an SEO plugin, the CPU would be used, regardless. Its not like this site has ton of traffic, but the second they enable network connectivity, CPU usage climbs.

What happens when Datafeedr is turned off?

Eric October 9th, 2011 06:06 PM

Also, we made a change to the plugin which might help. A plugin upgrade and full store update will be necessary to take advantage of the changes.

When I was able to get in there to disable it, the store was blank with datafeedr deactivated.

I updated the plugin, did a full update, then they disabled me again.

When I can get back in there, I will deactivate again and see what they say.

Able to get back into the site.

I am not seeing a newer plugin than 3.3.3596

Going to disable the datafeedr plugin and see what they say.

LimitlessMktg October 9th, 2011 08:23 PM

So now they are trying to blame a bad setting in W3 Total Cache (disk enhanced caching) for the problem. A problem that they installed W3 Total Cache to resolve?!

They installed W3 Total Cache.
Enhanced disk caching is recommended for shared hosting.
Says pages were NOT being cached with that setting?

Now DNS is jacked up. I'm seeing it resolve BACK to cloudflare. Registrar has the correct NS settings. I think they just reenabled cloudflare...

Frustrated and losing faith in HostGator.

Eric October 9th, 2011 09:26 PM

Ugh... sounds rough!

Try disabling the Datafeedr plugin and leaving it disabled. Then let HG try to figure out where the problem is. If the problem is not with Datafeedr, then the problem should exist again even with Datafeedr deactivated.

They have determined that the guy that installed the Total Cache followed an old document for preferred settings. They will be updating the doc with their new recommendations.

Putting this here to maybe help someone else out.

Hostgator and W3 Total Cache Settings

We do have a guide which is currently outdated, I have escalated this issue and we will update the tutorial as soon as possible, if you like to view it you can find it on the following page, please note the Page Cache Method: Disk (Enhanced) part is incorrect due to recent changes made to the plugin by its developers:
http://support.hostgator.com/article...zing-wordpress

I was able to connect from my mobile and kick off an update. It hung up for a while trying to update (I believe due to DNS issues) but now has apparently updated and products are back in the store front.

My ISP apparently still has cloudflare records for this site.

Thank you again for your persistence when the issue wasn't even yours...

Hi

I'm glad you got it sorted out and thanks for posting that information from HostGator!
