Custom views filters

I created a custom view to show outside the store. For this page in my site I need to show only categories related to that view. I made a category and subcategories for that purpose. Is it possible?

Yes, you can do this. Just add this to your WP Page [DFR:Category List?c=123456] where 123456 is the category ID of the parent category.

Works great Eric. Thanks

Now I want to add the subcategories of that parent to the sidebar. I've created some new widgets for that page but I'm still struggling on the way to add only those subcategories and show them in that page if you know what I mean?

You can use a plugin like the ones below to set which pages shows which widgets:

Thanks Eric. I'm already using widget context. My question is different. I created Ties parent category. I then created 5 subcategories under Ties parent. I want to have these 5 subs to show up in this page leaving my old categories showing up in my store pages. So when users go to my Ties page they see the Ties subs and can filter them to narrow their search for Ties.

Not sure if this is clear enough but let me know if you misinterpreted my question.

Why not create a new Widget View (in the Factory) add a Text module to the View and add [DFR:Category List?c=123456] where 123456 is the category ID of the parent category to the Text module.

Then expose the Widget on your "Ties" page. That seems the simplest to me.

Store ID: 44321
Website URL:
URL to page in question:

I did but nothing appears in the widget in my site front-end. See the filter by feature widget.

Can you click [Update Settings Only] and try again?

benjaffer August 30th, 2014 03:44 AM

I did once again but nothing changes.

I see the issue... your Ties category and its subscategories are hidden. They can't be hidden.

benjaffer August 30th, 2014 10:41 AM

Thanks Eric. I'm sorry I forgot to mention that. But I think about it as a separate page with its own categories, which is what I'm trying to achieve in spite of the categories being hidden, and when I unhide them they will appear in my store pages. When the categories are hidden the products are still shown in the page but not the categories. I want the Tie categories to appear in that page.

Eric August 30th, 2014 10:44 AM

I understand you want the categories to be listed but as long as they are hidden categories, they cannot be hidden.

If you still wish to keep those categories hidden, you might need to manually create links to the subcategories of "Ties".

I think that's my best option here.

Another question is, which I think I saw something like it here before but can't get where that thread is now. Is it possible to search only Ties category/subcategory page?

Eric September 1st, 2014 08:04 AM

No, that's not possible.

benjaffer September 1st, 2014 12:38 PM

Ok. In the same custom view, why the [category.description] does not appear in the page?

Eric September 1st, 2014 12:49 PM

Does the description for that category exist? If so, what category is it?

benjaffer September 1st, 2014 01:35 PM

Yes it does. In the Tie Rack category. I can see the description in the store page but in the custom view. I want it to show in the custom view, Tie Rack.

Eric September 1st, 2014 01:42 PM

What view exactly did you add the [category.description] tag to?

benjaffer September 1st, 2014 01:53 PM

Sorry I wasn't clear enough. The tag is available in the category page default view, but I also added it to the Tie Rack custom view. So It's available in both but I can't see the description in the front end of

Eric September 1st, 2014 02:01 PM

I can't see your Tie Rack category page because Tie Rack is still a hidden category. Hidden categories don't appear in your store.

As for the Tie Rack custom view, the view is not associated with a category therefore [category.description] will not work in that type of view. There's no way to use [category] tags in your custom views.
