Aggregating Products at top level categories

Is there a way to automatically aggregate products at the higher level categories?

I'm new to this, but here's an example of the category hierarchy:

1. Retro Fashion
1.1 Dresses
1.1.1 Swing

For efficiency sake, if I add "swing dresses" to "swing", then they should be automatically added to "dresses" and "retro fashion". However, from what I've seen with my limited experience, I have to add swing dresses to all 3 categories: "retro fashion", "dresses" and "swing".

Am I doing it wrong, or is this an oversight with the factory? Or is there some other reason why products do not automatically aggregate up category levels?

Thanks!
Bradley

Hi Bradley,

Welcome to the forums!

It depends...

If your parent categories are empty (ie. there are no products in your parent categories) then the products in your child categories will "appear" in your parent categories.

However, if your parent categories have even 1 product in them, then they will only show those products, not products in their subcategories.

For example, if you have this:

1. Retro Fashion (0 products)
1.1 Dresses (0 products)
1.1.1 Swing (10 products)

Then the 10 products will appear in Dresses and Retro Fashion.

But if you have this:

1. Retro Fashion (1 product)
1.1 Dresses (1 product)
1.1.1 Swing (10 products)

Then you will only see 1 product in Retro Fashion, 1 product in Dresses and 10 products in Swing.

You can configure this setting here: The Factory > Your Store > VIEWS > CATEGORY PAGE > Default > View menu > View Properties > When a category is empty...:

--- Display sub-category products
--- Do not display sub-category products

Hope this helps!

Eric

Thanks Eric for the quick reply!

Perfect :) I'll try that out.
