Default Automatically Expand Categories Widget?

Hi,

I would like to have my categories widget, (currently on very top of sidebar) automatically stay expanded. I found the following forum post about it but it is quite old and I didn't find it to answer my question.

http://www.datafeedr.com/forums/show...+widget+expand

Could you tell me how I could achieve making my categories widget stay expanded? I don't want customers to have to click on a parent category to see sub-categories. I want them to be able to see all parent and sub categories at one glance. I won't have many more than I do currently so I'm not too worried about space.

Thanks for your help!

Rebekah

Hi

Use "Template 2" in the Category list module here: The Factory > Your Store > VIEWS > WIDGETS > Category list.

Hi Eric,

Thanks. That really helps. Is there any code I could use to bold the parent category names so they stand out from the sub-categories a bit?

Thanks again!

PS, I chose template 3 which makes it formatted differently but I'd still like to bold the parent categories if possible. :-)

Hi

Try changing this:
HTML Code:
[category.list id='dfparent' before='<ul>' after='</ul>']
<li>
  <a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
  [category.list id='dfchild' before='<ol>' after='</ol>']
    <li>
      <a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
      [category.repeat id='dfchild']
    </li>
  [/category.list]
</li>
[/category.list]
To this:
HTML Code:
[category.list id='dfparent' before='<ul>' after='</ul>']
<li>
  <strong><a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a></strong>
  [category.list id='dfchild' before='<ol>' after='</ol>']
    <li>
      <a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
      [category.repeat id='dfchild']
    </li>
  [/category.list]
</li>
[/category.list]
