Default Members recommended host & service

Good Afternoon All,

I've been reading up on a number of posts here and also on the WordPress site with regards to GoDaddy and shared hosting. Most posts suggest that GoDaddy, shared hosting and WordPress don't go well together!

As with many examples, I have been in touch with GoDaddy as frequently at peak times, my site grinds to a halt taking anything from 30 seconds to 2 minutes to load. I've used various tools to run tests and GoDaddy asked me to install their own plugin which 'would point out the poorly coded plugins that are causing the problems'.

The next time my site was running slowly, I ran their tool which confirmed plugins were responding within 1.6 seconds, despite the site taking 50 seconds to load. GoDaddy ignored two responses to the ticket and finally came back saying I was to call in the next time the performance dropped.

I've seen lots of posts recommending other hosts (many I haven't heard of maybe as I'm in the UK) and suggestions about VPS.

So I guess my main question to other Datafeedr users is, which host are you with and would you recommend them? Also are you on shared hosting, VPS etc?

I currently have one site that I'm trialling and am planning on having a few more niche sites too, so I'm keen to get this side sorted before maybe having to move host.

I really appreciate any help or advice anyone can give

I've personally been using Liquid Web for many years. I started on their VPS and now I'm on a dedicated system. Their support is top notch.

Hi Eric,

I saw you mentioned them in a post about 3 years ago at which point you mentioned combined use of 4 years, so that sounds a great recommendation.

Silly question though. I'm good at finding my way round a shared hosting control panel and setting up WP via the one click install or via FTP and manually creating the databases but with a VPS is it a whole new 'ball game' and a completely different?

Would be concerned about signing up for a VPS and not having the first clue what to do after !

Hi

This was also my concern at the time. I didn't want to have to manage a server at all.

But, they have managed solutions. Be sure to get WHM in your plan. It's extra but it gives you cPanel for all of your domains. Look for this: "cPanel/ Web Host Manager - Fully Managed". It's an extra $20 but if you don't know how or don't want to manage a server, that's the way to go.

I use StormOnDemand, which is owned by LiquidWeb. You can grow your "dedicated" server, which is great IMO.

I am from NZ and because hosting is so expensive here I use hostgator and have never had any issues with them.
