Default Inconsistent search results.

Hi guys,

I decided to try to improve my search function as I knew it was weak but had been busy with other stuff until now.

The problem is, it's working really weird and returning not nearly enough results.

For example, if I search by "off" it returns no results! Mine is a coupon site, most of the coupons have the word "off" in them somewhere.

At first I thought there was a minimum length the search string had to be, but it seems that's not the case after all.

I am now starting to think that perhaps it's only the original feed that is searched, and not the modified verson displayed on my site. Because of the poor quality of 90% of the descriptions in the feed, I change them myself so they make sense.

Are the "Custom" fields searched too?

Many thanks,
Philip.

Hi Philip,

What search are you referring to? The search in the Factory or the search on your website?

I think that's the problem... it's related to issue #1 in this post: http://www.datafeedr.com/forums/show...=7067#post7067

The other 2 issues might also account for your inaccurate search results.

Also, your custom descriptions will be indexed and searched.

Thanks Eric,

very interesting, and explains the varying results perfectly.

My only problem now is that I don't use the Description field, as if I do it stops the Start and End dates appearing, and also the actual discount code.

As per your earlier advice (a few weeks ago) I now put the descriptions into the Specifications section.
Would it be an SQL job to have that field searched as during a search?

Thanks,
Philip.

Hi,

You would have to edit the core Datafeedr plugin. If you want to do that, open the datafeedr.php file.

Find this line:
PHP Code:
$where[] = "(MATCH (?_shop_products.name,?_shop_products.description,?_shop_products.tags) AGAINST($w IN BOOLEAN MODE))"
Replace with this line:
PHP Code:
$where[] = "(MATCH (?_shop_products.name,?_shop_products.description,?_shop_products.tags,?_shop_products.specs) AGAINST($w IN BOOLEAN MODE))"
Save.

Don't forget that whenever you upgrade the plugin, you will lose those changes.
