category display

Store ID: 38485
Website URL: http://partythemesforbirthday.com
URL to page in question: all

By now my website is close to what I want to see.
four categories >New releases June, July, August, September 2012 <
have children

I would like to only display the children in the widget
I did go to view>widget>category and change from All to Child categories only but than the widget is visible only until clicked when it completely disappears from all sidebars.

How can I make sure that the categories stay?
in other words I would like the widget to display new releases June 2012, when clicked the four themes, released in June, show up, just as they do right now when the widget is set to all.

Hi

I don't think that is possible... at least I can't figure out how it would be done.

You might need to use something like the plugin Widget Context however I still don't know if you'll be able to get what you want.

Eric, please ask your coders, there has to be a way to include or exclude categories from showing. Maybe I just did not explain myself. because all of my Main categories are in my navigation Bar having them also show in the sidebar is redundant.
but we do get new items every month which are placed in a category called New releases August 2012 and September October etc. and these categories need to show in the sidebar.
I can do this manually, but what a long drawn out pain in the neck that would be

Hi

Can you provide an example of exactly what you mean? Maybe I don't fully understand your request. However, from your initial post, I don't think what you want to do is possible without some extensive/additional PHP coding.

category display

Store ID: 38485
Website URL: http://partythemesforbirthday.com
URL to page in question: all

in this code [category.list before='<ul>' after='</ul>']

[category.if active="self"]
<li class="active">
[category.name]
[category.repeat]
</li>
[/category.if]

[category.if active="child"]
<li>
<a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
[category.repeat]
</li>
[/category.if]

[category.if active="parent"]
<li>
<a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
</li>
[/category.if]

[category.if active="no"]
<li>
<a href="[category.link]" title="[category.name]">[category.name]</a>
</li>
[/category.if]

[/category.list]

I believe there is a way to only show children categories

Hi

I still don't understand fully what you want to accomplish.

Here's more information regarding how to manipulate your category lists: http://www.datafeedr.com/docs/item/169
